Chromosomal mapping of selected DNA sequences and elucidation of the chromosome organization in the genome
The chromosomal localization of DNA sequences is one of the important basics for the representation of relevant synteny and linkage groups in animal breeding. The comparative mapping of selected genes or DNA sequences enabled e.g. the identification of putative candidate genes in regions of mapped QTL and contributes to the elucidation of the genome evolution. Additionally, the specific marking of defined chromosome regions enabled the analysis of the chromosome structure, e.g. of meiotic recombination processes or the identification of chromosomal rearrangements.
Specific areas of Research:
  • Physical mapping of selected DNA sequences of laboratory and farm animals by in situ hybridization methods.
  • Generation of comparative gene maps for specific chromosome regions linked to economical traits.
  • Identification and mapping of chromosome fragment specific DNA sequences and different expressed sequence tags (ESTs).
ADR-Research Project: Development of techniques and methods for high resolution mapping of QTL and for the application of trait associated markers for the marker assisted selection in farm animal breeding
Project in cooperation with Manfred Schwerin (FBN), E. Kalm (Uni Kiel), Rudi Fries (TU Muenchen)
  • Contribution to the partial project: Development and application of techniques for the targeted generation of chromosome fragment specific DNA markers
